How PC to Phone Calls Work

The technology behind PC to Phone calls is the VoIP Gateway that receives packetized voice transmission from the caller and then sends them to the PSTN of the receiver end, while at the same time converting the digital packets into analog packets that the PSTN understands. The PSTN then makes the connection to the receiver, and the conversation begins. ITSPs (Internet Telephony Service Providers) are the ones that use VoIP Gateways to allow users make direct long distance calls over the Internet.
